Orangutans live on two islands; the Indonesian island of Sumatra and the Malaysian island of Borneo. These are the only two places that they live in the wild, making it even easier to go extinct.
Orangutans spend most of their time in the thick forest. Sometimes hanging 120 feet in the air, they build their nests, find food, sleep, and play. It is estimated that they spend 90% of their time in the trees. Due to logging and deforestation, the orangutan numbers are lower than ever.
Orangutans, Chimpanzees, and other apes have similar diets. Orangutans mainly eat fruit, but also will eat leaves, bark, flowers, and insects. The chimpanzees and orangutans both use tools to collect food, such as their use of sticks to attract termites.
